Coconut Oil Deodorant

I have tried many non-aluminum deodorants on the market and none have come even close to this DIY recipe. Plus this recipes costs a tiny fraction to make by comparison to the all-natural products emerging on the market. Coconut oil has anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties. Couple this, with odor absorbing properties of baking soda, and moisture absorbing properties of arrowroot and you have an ideal deodorant. Choosing an essential oil with anti-bacterial benefits to make it smell great is an added bonus!

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup extra virgin organic coconut oil, melted

  • ⅓ cup baking soda

  • ⅓ cup organic arrowroot powder or organic cornstarch

  • 10 drops of essential oils of your choice (I use lemon oil)

Instructions

  1. Blend all ingredients together in a food processor. Move to the refrigerator to chill for 45 minutes. Mixture should be the consistency of slightly soupy cookie dough. If it's too thin, add more arrowroot. Too thick, add more coconut oil.

  2. Pour or scoop contents into the cavity of recycled deodorant stick and move back to the fridge to chill until completely firm. If you do not have a recyclable deodorant stick/container simply move to a small wide-mouth jar or ramekin and use your hands to apply deodorant daily.

  3. Note: Because coconut oil melts at 76◦, this mixture will become very soupy during warmer months of the year. Keep this in mind with traveling or storing your deodorant.
